Applications:
Fluorescent whitening agent: Optical Brightener OB-1 can be used as a fluorescent brightener in plastics, including PVC, polyethylene, polypropylene, cellulose acetate, polystyrene, polycarbonate, acrylics, polyurethane, linear polyester, and polyamides (nylon).
Fibers: OB-1 is most widely used to increase the whiteness of polyester, polypropylene and polyamide fibers, as well as, acrylic and styrenic fibers.
Food Packaging: OB-1 has a very low toxicity level compared to other brighteners which allows it to be useful as a plastic whitening agent for plastics used for packaging food products.
Recycled Plastics Production: OB-1 has found usefulness in the production of recycled plastics. It can used to increase the whiteness and brightness of RPET fiber and bring back a like-new look to recycled plastics.
Advantages:
Brilliant white coloring used to counteract yellowing
Outstanding heat resistance and low volatility makes this the ideal optical brightener for the production of fibers and plastics produced at high temperatures
Produces distinctly bight shades when used in combination of dyes
Extremely low toxicity allows its use in the production of food safe plastics
Great light fastness

Optical Brightener OB-1
Fluorescent Whitening Agent for Plastics and Synthetic Fibers
CAS # 1533-45-5
Optical Brightener OB-1 is a fluorescent whitener used within the plastics industry to increase whiteness and create brighter looking colors while being remarkably heat resistant and chemically stable. It uses a fluorescent process that absorbs invisible UV light and emits visible blue light. This is particularly useful in the offsetting of yellowness within polymers and creates a whiter and brighter appearance. This product’s unique properties make it ideal for use in the production of plastics requiring high temperatures and synthetic fibers like polyester and nylon.
Optical Brightener OB-1’s defining characteristic is its excellent thermal stability at high temperatures reaching 375-400 ℃. It has the best heat-resistance of all whitening agents which allows it to be integrated within plastics engineered with high melting points. It is most recommended for the production of engineered plastics like polycarbonates, polyesters, and polyamide fibers. It can also be used for acrylic and styrenic fibers and resin.
